Image Essay #14

This is digital image created by David Scott Leibowitz called “Six Bulbs Afloat.” The picture depicts six light bulbs floating in a body of water at night time. The light bulbs are lit up. This image uses cool colors (blues and yellows) with the white of lights. I thought this digital image was interesting mostly because of the concept. Everyone knows that electricity and water do not go together, yet in this image, the light bulbs are turned on (using electricity) and still floating in water. The cooler colors also give the viewer a sense of calmness. This is also strange because if someone saw a lit lightbulb floating in water, I do not think they would be very calm.

This picture also interested me because I am majoring in Digital Art here at Bowling Green. I think the sky and the light bulbs look to be well developed, but the water looks very thick like icing. Water is not thick, so I would like to see this changed. This is a problem because the light bulbs seem to be stuck into the water rather than slightly floating on it. I would also like to see a soft glow around the light bulbs.
